Laser scanning confocal microscope for optically sectioned fluorescence imaging.
Leica · TCS SP5 confocal microscope
What it does
A focused laser scans the sample and a pinhole rejects light from outside the focal plane, so each image is a clean optical section rather than a blur of everything above and below. Stacking sections reconstructs the sample in three dimensions, with several fluorescent labels separated by wavelength.
Key capabilities
- Optically sectioned fluorescence imaging
- Three-dimensional image stacks
- Multi-channel spectral detection
- Time-lapse acquisition
Applications
Life sciences · Biotechnology · Materials · Nanoscience
Sample types
Fixed and live cells, tissue sections, labelled biological samples and fluorescent materials.
